How to prepare your car for transport

A simple checklist that makes pickup quick and avoids disagreements about condition.

Updated 12 October 2026 · 3 minute read

Before the driver arrives

  • Take your own dated photos of every side, the roof, wheels and the interior.
  • Remove valuables and personal items. Goods in the car are not part of the transport.
  • Make sure the keys, locking wheel nuts and any alarm codes are ready.
  • Note any existing damage, leaks or warning lights.
  • Leave no more than a quarter of a tank of fuel, if the car runs.

At pickup

Walk round the car with the driver. They take their own photos, and these are stored with the job so both of you have the same record.

At delivery

Check the car before the driver leaves. If you see something that wasn't there before, mention it straight away and use the photos to compare.
